The Encore Kids is arguably the most well-known of all the Port Tobacco Players Encore groups. Over the years, the group has grown from its humble beginnings...
--- a handful of talented, performance-loving kids and their dedicated parents ---
to what it is today...
--- 20 - 40 talented kids (6-12 years old) who earn a place in the group through an annual audition process!
The Encore Kids produce three different shows annually:
--- a spring/fall 30-45 minute musical
--- a patriotic show, available throughout the year
--- a winter holiday musical, performed frequently throughout the very busy weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas
Participation in the Encore Kids is a major time commitment with rehearsals usually twice a week and performances scattered throughout the year. The group entertains throughout the Southern Maryland area and occasionally beyond, to include an annual performance at the holiday party on Andrews Air Force Base for children with cancer, and an annual performance at the epicurean club's holiday party for the orphans of Washington, DC.
The Encore Kids productions have been well received wherever they have been performed. Nevertheless, it is the members of the group who gain the most through participation: self-confidence, teamwork, dedication, commitment --- all qualities that these kids will carry with them into their adult lives.
